The Pressure to Follow a "Normal" Life Path

I wanted to write this blog to discuss some deeper emotions of what I think is happening to others. I have seen people struggle and try to continue on like nothing is happening. A lot of people are silently struggling with feeling like they are falling behind in life. We grow up surrounded by this idea of what a 'normal' life should look like. To find love, create stability and to continue to grow and move forward. Real life isn't that simple. We don't always have to find love or move forward, you can be happy with life and just enjoy it.

I remember looking around at people continuing on with their lives so normally while mine felt paused in the middle of uncertainty. I was able to sit back and observe. I realised that maybe my thinking was wrong and that the problem was not that my life was changing. It was believing that there was only one version of success or meaningful life. There is this pressure to grow into a better version of yourself. Growth can be beautiful, but people forget that peace matters too and you don't need to constantly improve yourself. If you try to keep growing, where does it stop? How long until you are the best version you could possibly be? You forget what you actually want and enjoy.

Not everyone wants a fast-paced life

Not everyone wants endless ambition

Not everyone dreams of climbing higher forever

Some people just want a quiet life that feels safe and honest, and that's okay. Stability, simple routines, meaningful relations, hobbies you enjoy, and enough happiness that gets you through each day. I think we started to treat ordinary lives as if they are not enough, always comparing yourself to others. Always trying to follow the 'normal' path, but where does this stop?

Normal life is not something that society should define for us. Normal should be whatever gives you peace at the end of each day. It could be working a job you enjoy without needing to constantly chase status. It could just be spending time with your family or gaming in your room after a long day. Going for long walks or reading books quietly, just creating a life that feels comfortable instead of impressive. The hard truth is that nobody will live forever so figure out how much growth you actually want and find your peace.

I think there is too much judgement around people who choose slower or simpler lives. Who decides that choosing comfort over constant ambition means you are wasting your potential.

Life does not always need to be about becoming more. Sometimes life is about appreciating what already exists. Through everything I have been through, I have learned how important gratitude is. Even during painful period of my life there are still things worth appreciating. The people who support us and the ability to wake up each day. The freedom to create a life that actually feels like our own.

I know that there are people facing far greater struggles than me with uncertainty about their future. That perspective has helped me stop obsessing over whether my life looked “successful or normal” and instead focus on whether it felt meaningful to me. You do not need to constantly prove yourself to deserve a good life. You do not need to follow someone else’s timeline. You do not need to endlessly chase growth if what you truly want is peace. Life is already difficult enough without feeling pressured to perform better for everyone else. Your normal life can be whatever you choose to make it.

Real happiness comes from finally allowing yourself to believe that is enough.
